The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing established the Central Almaguin Planning Board on March 26th, 1997. The Board consists of two provincially appointed members (for the unorganized territories) and one member from each of the organized municipalities. 

The areas included in the Planning Board are:

1. Unorganized Townships of Lount, Laurier, Paxton and Ballantyne (West of Algonquin Park)
2. The Organized Township of Strong, Township of Joly, Township of Machar, Village of Sundridge, Village of South River and The Municipality of Magnetawan

The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing delegated the authority for Central Almaguin Planning Board to grant decisions on consent applications, subdivision applications, condominium applications, validation applications, foreclosure applications and power of sale applications.
